Saturday Tennis Meet-Ups: May/June 2022

May 20, 2022 By Tina Carnally Leave a Comment

Join Our LGBTQ+ Tennis Group in Stockport

Wanna do something sporty in an easy-going, friendly environment? Join us for a casual game of tennis at a local court in Greater Manchester.

Don’t worry if you’re no Billie Jean King – our games are non-competitive. We’re just there to have fun!

Plus get fit, make new friends, reduce stress, increase mobility, and all of that lovely stuff while we’re at it. Stick around afterwards and we’ll grab a brew and a buttie.

  • Every Saturday at 10am – Keep checking the What’s On section for upcoming dates.
  • What if it’s raining? – We’ll confirm what the weather is going to be like two days before meeting. If it’s raining, we’ll head to the Manchester Tennis Centre.
  • Need help with transport? – We can organise a lift or cover your transport costs if you need help getting there.
  • Bring your own racket – We have plenty of balls but only one spare racket at the mo.

Just join us at the tennis court if you want to take part. We’ll meet you with a big smile! Keep an eye out for Forward T-shirts. Or get in touch with Tina on 07719103201, info@forwardlgbt.co.uk, or via our socials.

Where to Meet Us

  • Saturday 21st May – Cale Green Tennis Courts
  • Saturday 28th May – Longford Park, Stretford
  • Saturday 4th June – Cale Green Tennis Courts
  • Saturday 12th June – Longford Park, Stretford

Join Our LGBTQ+ Weekly Walking Group in Stockport

Want to make new friends in the community? Everybody is welcome to join us for a laugh and litter pick in local parks and nature spots around Stockport.

It’s a good vibe and great opportunity to get some exercise out in the fresh air. Get support from your peers if you need it and do something good for the environment.

  • Every Monday at 1PM – Check the What’s On section for future meetings.
  • Help with transport is available – Don’t know how to get there? We can help cover your travel costs or organise a lift.
  • We have litter pickers and bin bags – We love helping to clean up local areas. If you want to lend a hand during the walk, we have the gear.

If you want to join us, feel free to just turn up. Look out for a Forward T-shirt (or just look for the most gorgeous group of folx in the park). Or you can contact Tina via social media, on 07719103201 or info@forwardlgbt.co.uk.

Stockport LGBT+ History Month 2021

February 1, 2021 By Tina Carnally Leave a Comment

An online festival to celebrate LGBT+ History Month has been organised for all to enjoy in lockdown throughout February.

The annual event has a different theme each year and this year it’s Body, Mind, Spirit. In Stockport, celebrations have been set up by more than a dozen local organisations and individuals, including a calendar of free events and activities from live cupcake baking, boxing, creative recycling, and chemistry experiments, to social quizzes, poetry open mic nights, drag queen bingo, panel talks and much more.

“It is a great way to bring people of Stockport and beyond together, from all walks of life, and to showcase local talents. All from the safety of our homes.

“We want everyone to join in- not just people from the LGBT community but our friends, family, and colleagues.

“There really is an event for everyone – whether you’re interested in physical activities such as morning yoga or boxing, or whether you’re after a bit of fun with drag queen bingo!

“We also have free goody bags, which will make the events and activities more interactive, for example, with the live cupcake bake, people can collect the ingredients to join in. We can’t wait to get started!

“We have even had celebrity support from Sir Ian McKellen, who sent a message wishing us good luck. He said: ‘Congratulations on your important initiative and best wishes to everyone involved with Forward LGBT+’.”

The goody bags can be picked up from Nationwide building society branches in Stockport, Cheadle, and Marple; Pure Innovations cafes in Etherow and Vernon Parks. If anyone is unable to collect, Healthwatch Stockport can deliver it to you.
